As we enjoy another peaceful day surrounded by our friends and family in the safety of the United States of America, a world away brave men and women are risking their lives everyday to protect our freedom. They are the members of our armed services. Without a moment’s notice they react to any threat with bravery and honor for the Red, White, and Blue.
A little over 20 years ago on September 11, 2001, America was shaken to its freedom loving core. Less than 30-days later, on October 7, 2001, the world witnessed America’s response. In the over 20 plus years of war that followed, over 2.7 million Americans deployed worldwide to keep the globe safe from terrorism. But being the world’s protector of freedom had a human cost. Seven thousand fifty-four of America’s bravest never returned.
August 30, 2021, with the lowering of a flag in the desert far away with a skeleton crew of servicemembers, the conflict that defined a generation ended without fanfare and has nearly been forgotten. Today, we are at a crossroads of good versus evil and democracy versus autocracy. There are over 17.4 million veterans in the United States, will they suffer the fate of soldiers before them, to be forgotten and left behind for their sacrifices?
America is built on the dream of freedom, peace, democracy and compassion for our fellow man and the brave men and women that have fought for these principles must not be forgoten. Today, there are over 1.5 million homeless veterans and over 6,300 veteran suicides a year, with women veterans increasingly affected and financial insecurity on the rise.
We, the fellow veterans, refuse to let this be our narrative; there is reason for hope, because we’ve delivered hope around the world. There are individuals, organizations, and businesses helping connect, enable, and transform veteran communities. Join us at the Hollywood Vet Gala 2022 on October 7, 2022, to honor those making the most significant difference in the lives of veterans, service members, and their families.
Together we are an unstoppable force of good, join us today and make a difference.
